Job Description:
A nationally respected law firm is seeking a strategic and innovative Director of Knowledge Management and Research to lead its library and research operations in Miami. This is a high-impact leadership role ideal for a forward-thinking professional with deep experience in legal research, information management, and technology integration.
The Director will collaborate closely with firm leadership and cross-functional teams to enhance knowledge services, drive innovation, and support attorney and staff needs firmwide. This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the firm’s research capabilities while embracing modern technologies, including AI and data-driven tools, to improve client service and attorney support.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct and oversee advanced legal, business, due diligence, and competitive intelligence research
Implement best practices, workflows, and tools to streamline research support and improve efficiency
Lead the evaluation, negotiation, and management of legal research resources and vendor relationships
Maintain and enhance the department’s intranet presence and create research guides and tools
Develop and distribute current awareness newsletters and alerts; manage litigation and legislative tracking
Administer contracts and ensure optimal use and performance of research platforms
Oversee attorney and staff onboarding and offboarding with research resources
Design and deliver in-depth training sessions, including CLE-accredited presentations
Coordinate trial support, exhibit preparation, and complex research needs as requested
Serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership, contributing to strategic planning and firmwide initiatives
Manage department budget, process invoices, and monitor spending in alignment with goals
Collaborate across departments and practice groups to assess needs and enhance information services
Qualifications:
Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS), Juris Doctor (JD), or a combination of equivalent education and legal research experience
At least 7–10 years of progressive experience in legal research, knowledge services, or law firm library management
Expertise in legal and business research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, PACER, CNS, World-Check, Accurint)
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and strong aptitude for learning new systems
Proven experience managing budgets, vendor contracts, and research operations
Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and work independently under tight deadlines
Strategic mindset with a passion for innovation, process improvement, and service excellence
Ability to work occasional overtime and travel as needed
